Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection caused by Neisserria gonorrhea. This bacteria may cause infections of the urethra, bladder, prostate, epididymis, endometriu, fallopian tubes, pharynx, and other body parts.

Symptoms: less dramatic symptoms in women, often seen in men

In Men: burning sensation during urination, discharge, fever, painful sex

In Women: pain in pelvic area, unusual vaginal bleeding, bleeding after sex, symptoms similar to those men experience

Treatment: antibiotics such as penicillin

If Untreated: for women, if infection reaches the fallopian tubes, there is a 40% risk of scarring, tubal obstruction and loss of the ability to bear children. The longer gonorrhea is left untreated, the greater the chances of permanent damage.
